FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What does it mean to have a flexible schedule?

The Learning Lab is open Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. with all structured programming occurring from 8:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. This allows athletes from traditional brick-and-mortar schools and those attending online schools the opportunity to participate. Athletes can utilize the space when it fits their schedule. The Athlete Academy staff will be on-site to monitor the students using the facility during these hours.

What does a day at the Academy look like?

Our structured programming will take place Monday-Thursday from 8:30-9:30 a.m. Upon completion, the athletes can utilize the Learning Lab for their academics or leave the premises to attend their traditional schooling. The gym becomes available at 11:00 a.m. for Performance Training, and the athletes can train with our staff any time until 8:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. Our attendees can utilize the facility until 3:30 p.m. each weekday for the academics. Lunch is not provided, but there is plenty of space at our "Fuel Station" to take a lunch break during academic hours.

What is the structured programming at the Academy?

The programs will take place consistently from 8:30-9:30 a.m. throughout the year and are focused on personal and athletic development. The personal development sessions occur on-site and virtually in our state-of-the-art “Mind Gym". There will be a Mental Performance Coach on-site on Mondays. Wednesdays will focus on developing Leadership Qualities and Life Skills with highly credentialed coaches and special guests on-site and virtually. Sport Specific Skill Development takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Suburban Ice Farmington Hills (located across the street from the Athlete Lab) with our On-ice skills coaches.

What requirements are needed for admission?

The Athlete Academy will accept disciplined and driven student-athletes aspiring to reach their full potential. Athletes must be playing at a competitive level in their respective sports and have a will to push themselves and others around them. Boys and girls ages 14-18 will be accepted.

Is there an application process?

Yes, our application process will be available beginning February 1, 2025, for the 2025-26 school year.

What does it cost to attend The Athlete Academy?

If you're a hockey player, do you need to play on a HoneyBaked team to attend the Athlete Academy?

No. We accept athletes who play on a variety of teams and a variety of sports.

​

If I don't play hockey, what are the benefits of attending?

Student-athletes will receive the full program and full access to the Athlete Lab except for on-site, sport-specific skills training. The Personal Development Plan and Athletic/Cognitive Performance Plan remain consistent for athletes in all sports. The benefits of Mental Performance Training and the development of Leadership Qualities and Life Skills will still be received in addition to the learning space at the Athlete Lab. Non-hockey players will also be granted a discount on the full price.
